Curtains & Seeing Red, Mostly Blue
From my first creative acts, repetition and pattern have been dominant features, becoming a primary thread through my work. For the last decade, the starting point for the majority of my work discarded mass-produced fabric items, which I usually discover in thrift stores. The Curtains series focuses on a single synthetic curtain from Goodwill Central Texas in Austin, Texas. With these works, the traditional genre of western still-life painting — with its mix of visual generosity and warnings about materialism — is reinterpreted in works that address themes of iteration, time, and attention.
